From the first trimester through the postpartum period, your breasts undergo incredible changes while pregnant or nursing. As these fluctuations unfold, finding supportive and comfortable maternity and nursing bras becomes a top priority. In this post we talk about The Maternity Bra Your Boobs Need Right Now.

But between shape shifts, sensitivity spikes, and perpetual getting-drenched-in-leakage situations, identifying the RIGHT bras for your evolving breast needs proves incredibly frustrating for many soon-to-be moms. Consider this your cheat sheet for navigating every pregnancy and new mom bra challenge with flying colors!

First Trimester: Flexible Fuller Cup Wirefree Bras

Breast changes kick off super early in pregnancy thanks to a flood of new hormones. As mammary tissue expands, blood flow increases, and milk duct foundations activate, most women go up one or even two full cup sizes within initial months.

Since shape and size shifts continue unfolding week to week, first trimester bras must offer flexible support with:

• Comfortably stretchy fabrics
• Full coverage cups
• Wide underband (go down a band size if too loose later)
• No underwire or rigid cup structure
• Removable padding as sensitivity spikes
• Easy on/off clips and clasps

Perfect early pregnancy bra picks include:

• Warner’s Easy Does It No Bulge Wire-Free Bra
• Kindred Bravely French Terry Racerback Nursing Sleep Bra
• Motherhood Maternity Full Busted Seamless Clip Down Maternity & Nursing Bra

As trimester one wraps up, getting professionally sized by specialty boutiques ensures you pick an optimal bra size baseline before exponential growth really hits. Sizing into better-fitting bras now reduces painful chafing and strain as your bustline continues expanding. Stock up on at least two or more versatile styles to rotate through non-stop laundry cycles and frequent early milk leaks.

Second & Third Trimester: Structured Support Nursing Bras
Through the second trimester, breasts swell even larger thanks to proliferating milk ducts preparing for lactation demands. More defined cup shapes with rigid underwire and side support prevent the exponentially heavier girls from sagging painfully down your torso.

However, as the due date approaches toward the tail end of the third trimester, opt again for soft nursing bra styles without constricting underwires to avoid blocked ducts when milk comes in after delivery. Prioritize choices with easy single-handed open/close clips plus drool-catching cotton inserts to manage unpredictable leakage as hormones fluctuate.

Among the most recommended nursing and maternity bras for mid-to-late pregnancy includes options like:

• Kindred Bravely Simply Sublime Nursing Bra
• Motherhood Maternity Full-Coverage Underwire Nursing Bra
• Bravado Essential Embrace Nursing Bra
• Cake Cotton Candy Seamless Nursing Bra

Having a few different bras tailored to daily outfits gives dying-to-be-comfy bump bodies the adjustable custom support essential to making it through those final uncomfortable weeks as your baby drops lower and breathing gets trickier!

Postpartum: Hands-Free Pumping/Breastfeeding Bras

In the hours immediately after birthing your precious babe, ditch any restrictive bands so your poor bosoms can fully engorge then soften as mature milk comes flooding in. Expect exponentially larger, painfully firm swelling and lingering sensitivity for initial days until supply regulates around 2 weeks post delivery.

For this fragile adjustment window, stick strictly with:

• Ultra-stretchy tank-style bras
• Total nipple access with slide-aside cups
• Built-in shelf support without compression
• Absorbent pads to catch intense early leaks
• Racerback or wide straps slipping easily on/off

Top-rated nursing tank picks like the Kindred Bravely Simply Sublime Nursing & Hands Free Pumping Bra or the Bravado Maternity and Nursing Bras Seamless Nursing Bra Tank simplify round-the-clock feeding and pumping schedules without painfully smashed engorged breasts in the way!

Further down the postpartum road as engorgement and sensitivity ebb, take advantage of eventual lighter flows to test drive more convenient strapless, backless, or adhesive nursing bras offering discreet milk access without flashing the entire room if baby gets hungry off schedule.

Navigating the perpetual breast size and shape-shifting rollercoaster ride known as pregnancy/postpartum would overwhelm anyone! But foresight into upcoming support and leakage containment needs offers essential first step to ultimately finding bras keeping you comfortable at every turn. Lean on the unmatched experience of specialty bra fitters and NICU nurses guiding countless new moms before you to the BEST solutions tackling pregnancy and breastfeeding challenges as they come – and shift yet again. I hope this The Maternity Bra Your Boobs Need Right Now article helps you.

You’ve got this mama!

Millie has the beautiful Stokke Sleepi cot, which transformed from the sweet little oval Sleepi Mini bassinet.

It is so stylish and its convertible style is perfect in our small home, meaning we don’t have the bassinet to store somewhere now she’s grown out of it.

But designer goods come with designer price tags and the unusual oval shape means we have to foot the bill for matching Stokke sheets (I wish I could sew. I can’t).

But I stumbled across Melbourne’s own Little Linen Company when a friend asked me where I got my OiOi baby bag and doing an online search.

Turned out my much-admired green bag is connected to the same company who made the amazing digital-print muslin wraps I bought for Millie when she was a newbie, the Airwrap breathable cot bumpers and funky crochet blankets.

The digital print muslin makes a light cot sheet

The company’s Little Bamboo brand round cot fitted sheet ($27.50) fits the Stokke Sleepi for a fraction of the price of the Stokke sheet. It’s soft and gets better after each wash – but only comes in white.

The breathable Airwrap

I also recently bought the Airwrap, a breathable cot bumper. Bumpers are usually a no-no,

but this one is made from mesh for airflow and has stopped Millie from sleeping with her

head against a wooden rail and throwing teddies, dummies, arms and legs out the sides of the cot.

The digitally-printed muslin wraps are so handy and so cute and a really fine, lightweight muslin. I bought one with a baby world map because with red and blue colours I thought it was good for a boy or girl. I’ve used it so much, not only to swaddle Millie but as a nursing cover, pram cover and as a sheet for Millie on hot nights.

The Weegoamigo muslin wraps have many colourful prints

The thicker printed muslin wraps are a steal at $14.95 and are really soft – I also found this type was harder for Millie to wriggle out of in her sleep. There’s dinosaurs, vegies, flowers, bears….cute, cute, cute.

My green leather hobo nappy bag has been a great choice. These bags are expensive but last, have lots of handy compartments and look just like a big slouchy handbag.

As well as selling online, I’ve seen The Little Linen Company products at Baby Bunting and Parenthood.

I’ve just come back from a major shopping mall. It’s only November and I’m already in a tinsel-induced tizz. It was utter madness. The crazed clamber for a parking spot and the queue to buy or visit Santa has begun. Already. Did I mention it’s November?

So with that in mind, and to help spread the Christmas cheer to some of my fave small business owners by encouraging you to shop small and shop local, I’ve compiled a handy little guide to the BESTEST places to shop online this Chrissy. I’ll be purchasing a lot of my gifts this festive season from these stores. In the past I’ve bought some of our most treasured trinkets, outfits and shoes from these stores and every one of them rocks.

Whatever you buy from these stores, I can assure you it will be awesome and the present will be loved. You won’t have to brave the crowds, instead just wait for the doorbell to ring when the postie arrives laden with gifts! No need to thank me (but I do hope you’re noticing how helpful I’m being, Santa). Here we go…

Hello Willow

Some of the best children’s designers from Australia and NZ can be found in the one place. PIC: Hello Willow

This little shop is packed to the brim with the funkiest children’s clothing, décor and gifts with everything either designed or designed and made in Australia or New Zealand. You won’t believe how talented our local designers are – there’s brands like Minti, Bella & Lace, Children of the Tribe, Nature Baby, Peggy, Huxbaby and Milk & Masuki to ensure your little one is streets ahead in the style stakes. Then Mister Fly, Boo and Bear, Two Little Ducklings Naturebubz and Indus will kit them out with the cutest accessories like play mats, rattles, flash cards, blankets and softies. Run by Melbourne mum Jas, the shop is located in Elwood village, but if you can’t get there and don’t want to miss out, visit hellowillow.com.au

Acorn

Millie wears the Abbey reversible hat and Golden Day bloomers. PIC: Acorn

Acorn is your one-stop summer shop. Sunhats, bonnets, playsuits, headwraps and bloomers with the sweetest prints are available in all sizes from infant to big kids. Designed in Melbourne, the hats are a winner for staying on and keeping the sun off. Adjustable bands, toggle ties, reversible designs and wide brims, the hats are rated UPF50+ and keep little heads cool (while looking cool!). With a long, hot summer of playground visits, beach days and kinder ahead of us, it’s the gift you’ll need AND want. A word of warning: adding bloomers or a playsuit to cart will generate a new shopping addiction once you see your little one’s leggies in them. ADORABLE. Have a look at acornkids.com.au

Oishi-m

Colourful, cute and comfy. PIC: Oishi-m

Limited edition garments for skinny minis and chubba bubba boys and girls, Oishi-m is designed in Torquay (Vic) with lots of the clothing made here too. Pieces are so adaptable with rolled hems, stretch fabric ‘tummy toastie’ waistbands and double buttons on dresses and jackets to accommodate a growing child. Cleverly cut panels allow freedom of movement while looking oh-so-cute. Super comfy but super stylish, Oishi-m is original, bright and hard-wearing – you won’t find better clothes that allow kids to be kids. Visit oishi-m.com

Pretty Wild

Millie wears the Pretty Wild Ginger dress in Blossom

If you love classically chic clothing with hand smocking, embroidery or Liberty florals, you’ve come to the right place. Pretty Wild pieces have a timeless charm that suit every occasion and will become a treasured part of your child’s wardrobe. Party dresses, Christmas Day outfits, cosy cardis or beautiful clothes for frolicking in the park, it’s all here. A brand new store has opened in Smith St in Collingwood (Melbourne), but the online store also has all designs and accessories in stock with free shipping Australia wide. Visit prettywild.com.au

Naughts & Crosses

A treasure trove of childhood fun. PIC: Naughts and Crosses

I’ve spoken of my love for this store on this blog before, but now there’s an online store for the shoppers not lucky enough to live near this hidden gem. Owner Louise has a knack finding the cute and the quirky, the different and the sometimes hard-to-find toys, decor and knick-knacks that means you’ll be spolit for choice when deciding on pressies. There’s goodies for teeny bubbas celebrating their first Christmas to dolls for girly-girls, puzzles, toy trucks and trains, craft kits, bath toys, wall hangings, lamps and bedding. Go to naughtsandcrosses.com.au

Printebebe

Floaty florals and breezy dresses at Printebebe. PIC: Carlotta Moye for Printebebe

Another one of my fave online stores (I’m now realising I have many!) is Printebebe. Having worked as a fashion editor, Printebebe is a combination of Sydney designer Fiona’s love of fashion, mixed prints and her daughter, Gidget. The simple girls’ clothing range suits children from three months to eight years – with some pieces for boys too. Lightweight cotton dresses for summer or quilted jackets and printed overalls for winter, I’m often asked where I find Millie’s outfits and more often than not it’s when she is wearing Printebebe. Shop at printebebe.com

Bobux

MIllie wears the Bobux Zap shoes in red

Got to love a shoe shop where I can find something for my baby boy as well as my ‘big girl’. Soft soled booties, colourful sandals, leather boots and sneakers that kids love to wear but are good for their feet are very hard to find. But every Bobux shoe is designed with healthy foot development in mind. We can vouch for the quality of Bobux shoes – they look cute-as-a-button but protect tiny toes, prevent blisters, allow feet to breathe and flex and move with every step. Try the expert fitting tool and shop online at bobux.com.au

Big Dreams

I’m convinced Santa shops here too. PIC: Big Dreams

It’s a children’s emporium that fills every little visitor with joy – from the artfully decorated windows to the massive range of quality toys, the Northcote (Melbourne) store is just like Santa’s workshop. But jump online and it’s all there for your choosing and really easy to navigate – the shop by age category is super handy for buying gifts and staff picks highlights the fave pieces from the ever-helpful Big Dreams staff members. Soopsori, Bajo, Grimm’s, Brio and Moover brand toys sit alongside Ragtales, Maileg, Oli & Carol, Lego, Seedling and Sylvanian Families. Clothing, baby gifts and a huge selection of shoes is also available for browsing online 24/7. Fast, free shipping is offered for orders over $150 at bigdreams.com.au

Oobi

Colourful, fun and frilly is the Oobi style. PIC: Oobi

Frolicking in bright and cheery prints is the Oobi mantra. Designed in Sydney, Oobi is all about colour and the cute outfits that little girls want to wear. There’s styles for newborns right up to a size 13. My favourite part? Designer Alex Riggs wants to ‘Oobify’ the world and donates a new piece of Oobi clothing to a child in need for every item purchased. Shop at oobi.com.au

Little Nook Children’s Boutique

A very Christmassy flatlay. PIC: Little Nook Boutique

Little Nook Children’s Boutique was created by mother/daughter team Sue Manson and Nicole Haddon with stylish and quality fashion and interior design important to them personally and professionally. They have put together a beautifully curated range of Australian and international designers for kids including books, toys, cushions, nursery décor, party ware and clothing. If you can’t visit the boutique in Mt Eliza (Vic), shop online at littlenook.com.au

Wild & Whimsical Things

Little forest friends by Hazel Village. PIC: Wild & Whimsical Things

Owned by a self-confessed day dreamer, lover of nostalgic childhood stories, crafter and collector of beautiful toys, mum Adrian encourages the toys for children to learn skills to enable them to become more confident and capable adults. Wild & Whimsical Things has selected toys “that help naturally engage children into imaginative and creative play rather than have a specific purpose built in mind”. Toys that won’t restrict a child’s imagination and allow them to play and explore freely can be found here. Don’t forget to sign up for the newsletter for a 15% off discount code, wildandwhimsicalthings.com.au

Having a baby is a big deal. Huge. And while it’s not about the gifts you can give a new mum and her precious bundle, it certainly is important to get it right if you do go to the trouble of finding something special.

I’ve always tried to look for quality pressies and go by the motto that I only buy things for others that I would want for myself. So when some parcels arrived for Finn and I, I know they would be appreciated by the person I choose to spoil because I absolutely loved them.

A delivery for me! Jardins roses in a box

The Jardins boxed roses are spectacular. So beautiful. Three dozen perfect roses peeking up over the top of a presentation box. I don’t think I’ve ever been delivered flowers as amazing as these.

There’s ribbon handles so you can move the box around (great for a mum in hospital because the box can go where she does). Usually roses are presented in boxes lying flat so you can’t see the flower’s face and petals properly. No such problem with these – every perfect rose has its best feature on show!

My little rosebud and the Jardins roses Pink and pretty

Finn was not forgotten and was sent a box chock-full of surprises fit for a bouncing baby boy.

The Blue Car Gift Set from My Baby Gifts arrived tied up with a beautiful blue ribbon and contained gorgeous goodies for my boy – some for now and some he can grow into.

There was a striped short-sleeve romper, a long-sleeve romper and a bib with a cute-as-a-button car print, a soft blue fleece blanket, a sock pack and a bunny comforter.

Presents aplenty

The clothing is beautiful quality and Finn has already taken to snuggling up under the blanket with his bunny. Gift packs are available in a variety of sizes and there’s themes for boys and girls or unisex packs which would be a perfect (and impressive) gender-neutral baby shower pressie.

Florals, cars, trains, penguins, stars, giraffes, ducks, bunnies…there’s gift boxes with a theme to suit any new arrival. It really makes the ‘what to I get?’ dilemma disappear.

The gift you choose is beautifully wrapped and delivered on your behalf.

Cuteness! Finn doesn’t come with any of the gift boxes, but his cute outfit does…

Finn was very happy with his surprises! Every item included was of great quality and items I would have bought for him myself.

As soon as Millie entered the world, she became my Little Miss Pink.

Pale pink swaddles, pink printed onesies, musk baby moccs and pastel pink dresses. I love pink on baby girls.

But as she has grown (*sob*), I’ve embraced a rainbow of colours and also the monochrome trend that’s so popular with many children’s labels right now.

Her drawers are still filled with splashes of pink, but now sit alongside a mix of brights and stylish black, grey and white.

Below is a pick of some of Millie’s favourite labels and the pieces that scream ‘colour me happy!’ or best show off monochromatic magnificence.

The best thing about kids is they can get away with wearing anything, so if you go crazy colourful or plain and simple you really can’t go wrong.

We bought our baby a Bugaboo. Despite the fact it cost more than my first car, it’s been one of the best baby items we’ve bought. I love it. Millie loves being in it. It’s a smooth ride. It’s easy to push and manouvre. Happy days.

Millie and her little friend Olivia snooze under their Breezy Sun Canopies during a walk to Luna Park

We bought quite a few baby essentials at a David Jones Baby & Toddler Expo. The department store hosts these special days a couple of times a year and brand representatives are on hand to answer questions – but the best part is that prams, cots, car seats, monitors etc are 20% off on the day.

It was perfect because we picked out what we wanted and paid a deposit while it was all ordered in. There’s not much space at our place and we could relax knowing we had all we needed on its way while we cleared out the spare room that was to become bub’s nursery.

I didn’t test out many prams to be honest, but trusted the opinions of friends who used a Bugaboo.

After a go of pushing it around DJs and a shot at folding it up, we settled on a Cameleon 3 with the plain black fabric set. We didn’t find out if we were having a girl or boy, so black suited either. It looks chic too, and when baby did arrive, the dark canopy meant it was easy for her to fall asleep.

While the pram is close to perfect, there have been some additions I’ve made (seems just because you spend $1000+ on a pram doesn’t mean everything you need comes with it, oh no). There are some pram accessories that I think are worth the extra cash.

The cup holder was on my birthday wish-list. It’s great. It keeps my daily takeaway latte upright while I tend to baby and allows me to have two hands on the pram. You can buy them at Baby Bunting.

I bought a cheap bag hook that’s been super handy, especially while Millie was in the bassinet. The bassinet on the Bugaboo is very roomy (Millie still fitted in it until she was 6 months) but it’s tricky to access the underpram bag holder. The bag hook allowed me to attach lightweight bags without the need for squashing it under. The Brica brand one I have is hardened plastic so it doesn’t make a noisy clunk along the handlebar when you fold the pram up. Toys R Us, Kmart, Target and Baby Bunting all have lots of different types.

I also bought the Bugaboo Breezy Sun Canopy and it’s been fantastic so far in these sweltering summer temperatures. It allows for extra ventilation and mozzie protection through fine mesh panels on the sides and at the feet, has a UPF of 50+ and extends over the stroller seat (or bassinet) so to keep the sun off bub entirely. It means we can still have a walk outside on warmer days. I got mine at Buckets and Spades in Brighton, it was about $100.

After converting my pram to the stroller mode I purchased a seat liner. I figure that it’s easier to pull it off and wash it than trying to clean the actual pram. There are some talented sewers out there making seat liners in all kinds of bright and beautiful printed fabric if you don’t want to spend the $75 on the Bugaboo one. A quick search on Etsy or eBay will offer up plenty of options.

Spending extra money on the footmuff is probably uneccessary. Most babies have multiple sleeping bags with holes for harnesses and warm blankets to keep cosy during the winter chill. If it was that cold and blowy I probably wouldn’t venture outdoors with my baby anyway!

I admit the printed canopies look funky. There’s Andy Warhol prints and alternative colours but the fabric set that it comes with is fine.

You can buy snack trays, parasols and Bugaboo-branded blankets but I think these are add-ons you really don’t need.

There’s even a Bugaboo transport bag…but at $210 I’d be tempted to buy a stroller overseas to use while on holiday or even buy a cheap stroller here that won’t worry you if it’s thrown around and damaged while in transit. Target has a cheap and cheerful stroller available now for just $25 that would suit bubs over 6 months.

Winter clothing is starting to drop into stores. But rather than get sad about the gloomy weather to come, I rejoice.

The change of season means all the delightful summer baby outfits are discounted. Run, don’t walk. Grab that baby jogger and get shopping.

“But the warm weather is as good as over!” I hear you say. I know – I’m advising you to get savvy.

Millie will be 18 months old next summer. So I hunted down size 1 and 2 clothing so she will be ready and raring to go at the first hint of sunshine.

It’s an outlay at first – and you have to find somewhere to store it – but it’s a very economical way to dress baby in great gear for a fraction of the original price.

I just bought Millie an adorable Fox & Finch top and tights set, that full price would have cost me $60. I paid $28 at Myer.

This little Fox & Finch Baby outfit cost less than $30

Myer at the moment has 30% off the marked price of much of its summer childrenswear. I have seen some items marked down by 75% of the marked price.

Signs like this can make my day

Scour the racks and you are sure to find something that takes your fancy…you just have to do a little age calculation first.

I’ll be on the lookout for clothing that will be Millie’s size mid next year when it’s time for the end of winter clothing clearout sales.

I’m not the only one who shops like this. My friend Bel just bought some Bonds goodies on sale for her daughter to wear in about 10 months’ time. My cousin Jen does the same for her three children.

Bonds often has 40% off, Purebaby has a great end of season sale (at the moment most summer stock is 30% off the marked price if you buy 3 or more items) and at Cotton On, Pumpkin Patch and Seed you can find very cute threads for next to nix.

Originally $49.95, I bought Millie this size 2 beach kaftan dress for $23 during a Purebaby sale

Not to be forgotten, online shopping can be a winner when it comes to big discounts. Online retailers want to clear out for the new season too, so offer amazing sales, some with further discounts with a coupon code.

Sign up to store newsletters and emails to be notified of sales first (you don’t want to miss out on your child’s size!) and look for Instagram or Facebook accounts linked to your favourite shops. Often flash sales, free shipping offers and VIP discounts are advertised here first.

Some of my favourite Aussie children’s online retailers (which all have great sale sections or regular sales) include:
Baby Dino
Baby Donkie
Odds and Evie
Harley and Soo
Bella & Lace

There’s 40,000 square metres of Giftorium goodness across all Myer stores this year, leaving little chance for anyone not to find the perfect pressies this Christmas.

Offering more than 2.5 million products, Giftorium has toys, homewares, games and puzzles, fashion and cosmetics all grouped into seven themed areas. I plan to take my list to level 6 of Myer Melbourne and tick off all my Chrissy shopping in one afternoon. I’m super confident it can be done!

Millie and I were invited to check out the one-stop Christmas shop at the VIP launch last week and were both in awe of the unique gifts for sale.

Savvy shoppers can find personalised jars of Nutella (oooh yeah), personalised Peanuts and Mr Men prints, Australia’s only Build-A-Bear shop inside a shop, monogrammed leather goods and pop-up Star Wars and Disney shops.

Myer CEO and managing director Richard Umbers said this year the Giftorium is bigger and better.

“Giftorium brings the love of shopping to life and captures the spirit if Christmas by bringing together an extensive range of Christmas gift ideas combined with the theatre and sparkle of retail,” he said.

Giftorium goodies are available both in store and online.

To keep up your shopping stamina, Brunetti has a pop-up cafe within the Myer Melbourne Giftorium (yay for quality coffee, macarons and mini gelato!).

Meanwhile, Santaland will open in Melbourne on Tuesday, November 10 to coincide with the Myer Christmas Windows unveiling, and all other downtown stores on Saturday, November 14.

A spotty yellow pouch arrived in the mail for Millie that had her skipping outside faster than you can say busy bee.

The new Honey & Co Club shared with us its first ever kit – with a spring theme – as part of a monthly subscription service to deliver a parcel of fun to your child and encourage their creativity.

In a lovely little screenprinted pouch was flower seeds, plant pots, magic dirt, toddler gardening gloves, instructions, a magnifying glass, whirly windmill, hand and body wash, a colouring-in picture and a postcard.

The monthly kits are delivered by post and addressed to your child, with a new surprise theme and contents each month.

Millie enjoyed getting her hands dirty and helping to plant some spring flowers in the great outdoors. Her little pots are just starting to sprout and checking the progress of her tiny potted garden is the first thing she wants to do when she wakes each morning.

She LOVES watching the whirly windmill we’ve fixed to our fence and helps water the garden on hot days wearing her toddler-sized cotton gardening gloves. The kit has really encouraged her to join us outside and ‘help’.

Created by Lou, Melbourne mum to Audrey Mae and a Labrador Honey, the Honey & Co Club was started because of Lou’s fond memories of collecting handfuls of Christmas cards from the letterbox each December.

“Being allowed to open these was such a thrill. As a new mum and sitting on the front porch with my nearly one-year-old and our family pet dog, I watched as my daughter played with the mailbox. As months went on, the thrill she got when something was in there, even the local takeaway pamphlet!” she says.

“I got to thinking, I would love for her to receive mail the old-fashioned way as she grew older.”

The kits are sent in the first week of each month and are available for ages 0-3 or 3-5. Subscriptions to the Honey & Co Club start at $29 with free shipping.
